We tend to think that improving mental health is something that takes many months to achieve. But it turns out that you can radically shift your internal chemistry in just 15 minutes or less.
You’ve probably experienced a reversal in mood in your life before. You feel down in the dumps in the morning and then, suddenly, something happens that lifts you out of it. You feel elated and elevated again.
In this post, we take a look at some simple mental health tricks that take 15 minutes or less. Try them out for yourself.
Have A Deep Chat With A Friend
Humans are social creatures. And that means that having deep chats with friends is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding things that we can do.
Deep chats go way beyond just discussing a topic. They allow us to connect with other people and share our burdens with them. For that reason, they can be therapeutic.
Go For Some Exercise
Just doing some simple exercise, like walking or yoga, can also utterly change your internal chemistry and body’s state. Again, you probably know about this already. Once you step out of the house and into nature, you feel different. And if you push yourself hard, you get a flood of feel-good hormones that stay with you for the rest of the day.
Get Help Online
You don’t have to spend hours in the therapist chair to deal with the negative moods and emotions you experience. These days, everyone is using hypnotherapy online to change how they feel. Sessions don’t have to last that long. But they can fundamentally alter your thinking processes.
Write In Your Journal
Many people find writing in a journal a therapeutic process that allows them to express themselves better than they could in a conversation. Again, you don’t have to write page after page of notes: just keep it basic and talk about how you feel. Putting down your emotions on paper can allow you to distance yourself from them in a healthy manner and get on with your day.
Get Into A Sleep Routine
When your mental health starts to decline, you can find it challenging to get enough sleep. Anxiety, for instance, can keep you up at night.
The trick here is to develop a robust sleep routine – something you know will allow you to flop off. People with sleep deprivation are more than ten times more likely to develop mental health conditions, are around 17 times more likely to have anxiety.
Focus On Somebody Else
Here’s another great idea. Instead of trapping yourself in your own mind, focus on doing something positive for somebody else. Looking out for the wellbeing of others helps you refocus on the external world and stop worrying so much about yourself. Just simple acts of kindness can help get you out of your head and back into the world. Carrying somebody’s shopping bags or allowing somebody to go in front of you at the checkout queue are examples of simple things you can do.
