There are many things that go into making a wonderful wedding come off without a hitch (or at least as few as possible), and that usually means that you’ll have had help making it all happen – no matter how independent you might be or how much you might have wanted to be in control (or were in control), a little help won’t have gone amiss.
That means there will be people you more than likely want to thank at your wedding; you’ll want to acknowledge the assistance they gave you, especially if it meant the day went smoothly or you were able to have things you might not have had otherwise.
But how can you thank them on such a busy day? Don’t worry; we’ve got a few answers to that question to help you do it right.
The Toast
Assuming you’re going to give a traditional toast and speeches at your wedding (you don’t have to, of course, and if that’s the case, there are other options on this list for you), you can easily ensure that anyone you specifically want to thank gets a mention. You can write a toast that talks about exactly how they helped and how grateful you are, and then you can even raise a toast to them.
The one thing to bear in mind is the person themselves at this point; is a big gesture like this going to sit well with them, or would they rather it was a quieter thank you? Some people don’t like being the centre of attention, so think about that first and do what’s right for the person you’re thanking.
Buy Them A Gift
One thing that often goes down well when it comes to thanking someone for helping out at your wedding is a gift. You can present this during or after the speeches if you want everyone to see, or you can give it privately if you (and the recipient) would prefer.
Traditional gifts include flowers and jewellery, but you can give anything at all. One great idea is to buy their wedding outfit, for example. Find out what they want (letting them choose is best) and then purchase it for them. There are some lovely mother-of-the-bride options at
The Wedding Shop if this idea is one you want to take further.
Dedicate A Song
Once again, it’s going to depend on the kind of wedding and reception you have, but if there’s going to be music (which there usually is), you could also thank someone by dedicating a special song to them.
Pick one that means something to you both, or perhaps that’s a particular favourite of the person you’re thanking. It doesn’t have to be a popular one or something anyone else knows because it’s between you and the person you’re grateful too – you could even pick a show tune or a piece of classical music if that makes sense. Make sure the DJ or master of ceremonies explains why you’re playing it and who it’s for, and this could make a lovely thank you gesture.
