Maternity Leave – A Lonely Place

I counted down the months, weeks, days, hours and minutes until I finished for maternity leave. 30th April 2013 since I last did a days work – and as I’ve taken voluntary redundancy it’s probably the last ill do for some time! But maternity leave (and beyond) can get quite lonely.

I’m a very awkwardly shy person. Shy until I feel fully comfortable – this is 10 fold when it’s a big group. I have found having the girls has helped as on a daily basis you get many strangers talk to you about them (undoubtedly wheeling out all the twin cliches…!) but I still struggle to make friends.
But the days can seem long when you’re home alone with two little monkeys all day. Whilst I’m so grateful to have this time with them I fear they get bored stuck in the house all day looking at my ugly mug. Granted the school run gets me out the house twice a day but I’ve decided that I’m going to make a conscious effort to be more sociable & try to make some “mommy” friends and of course friends for the girl.
At the moment we only attend one group on a Tuesday & to be fair we are getting a bit too mobile to be there much longer so its time to expand!
Anyone else find this the same?!
