Weight Loss Mummy

It’s January. Christmas is well abd truly over. This can mean only ldn thing – fitness DVDs, new diets and dieting pills, slimming clubs and all things skinny are about to EXPLODE everywhere. Claims to banish the baby belly, kiss goodbye to your mummy tummy and everywhere telling you that the Christmas goose well and truly has gotten fat.

Every glossy mag this week will be filled with celebs in their bikinis dancing down golden sanded beaches over Christmas so we feel guilted into reading which celebrities dvd will help up lose the most weight with the least effort. And us Mommies are prime targets.

Advertisers year in year out build us up to knock us down. Prior to 25th December we are bombarded with the fact it’s the season to treat yourself, go on – indulge – it IS Christmas after all! Have that extra mince pie; drink Baileys for breakfast; stuff that selection box just before bed – ITS CHRISTMAS! But come Boxing Day, the tv adverts dump you literally overnight and you’ll wake up feeling full of regret and self loathing.

The shaming that you dared eat extra slice of Christmas pudding to wash down the copious amounts of mulled wine followed by the cheese board and tub of chocolates make you feel like a bloated mass murderer. Shame on you for enjoying yourself! But hey don’t worry – Here. In 7 minutes you can be skinny again… Or can you?

Last year I tried my first ever fitness DVD and I’m amazed to say – it actually worked! Yes Vicky (or Vi-ie as I can’t help but pronounce it as in my superb Geordie accent) from Geordie Shores 10 minute workout genuinely helped me lost half a stone in a few weeks. This combined with the slave driver that is My Fitness Pal gave me a quick fix – but is it sustainable?

Doing a 10 minute workout a day sounds so simple. And it is. Even crazy busy parents who when they finally get their children to bed have a meagre 10 minutes to spare so this is guaranteed to work? I’m proof it does…you know there’s a massive but coming right? (And no jokes about my arse here please)

I got bored. Simple as that. A DVD is great for the first few weeks but then doing the same thing with the same person saying EXACTLY THE SAME THINGS in the same old droning voice gets very monotonous very quickly. Variety is the spice of life they say and watching the one from Geordie Shore prancing about in her shiny gold top with her rock hard and just isn’t spicy enough for me.

So what’s the answer? My girls are almost 19 months old so that no longer is a valid excuse I concoct in my head) borderline going up yet another dress size and I’m aggrieved at the prospect of my current wardrobe being obsolete just because I can’t stop shovelling crisps down my neck.

I can’t really join a gym or go running (I can’t run full stop if I’m honest!) each evening. My husband works away a lot so evenings are out and weekends are the rare times we get to be together so I’d feel guilty sloping off for a few hours.
Diets just don’t work for me. I’m incredibly fussy with food – there’s very few meals I like so I’m limited. My Fitness Pal is usually the best way for me to limit my intake so I feel this may play a part in 2015.

But despite all these ridiculous excuses – I will banish my mummy tummy and get rid of the bloat. First things first though – I need to get on the scales to see where I’m starting from and I think this prospect scares me more than the act of losing weight!! Any tips would be fab.

Wish me luck!

A Different Christmas

Christmas is all about tradition for us – even down to what we have for breakfast. So this year we decided to do everything completely different to take our minds off a difficult first christmas

So me, my husband & children headed off to Somerset with my Dad, sister, brother in law and my Gran to the most gorgeous lodge in Cheddar. We had the most beautiful blue skies on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The kids loved having everyone around and despite coughs and colds it was lovely to spend time with my closest family.

We stayed in these lodges in the summer and it’s such a gorgeous place. It’s only around 2 hours from us so not too far for the kids in the car.

Here’s a few of my favourite shots. Didn’t take the proper camera so it’s the wonderful world of the iphone!

Charlie had never been in a hot tub before and LOVED it! He went in every day and didn’t ever want to get out!

There was some serious competition going on with the Wii!!!

Now to decide what to do for New Years?!?

My Christmas Message

I love Christmas. It’s the most amazing time of the year. I get this buzz in my tummy as soon as the calendar changes to December. I’m frenzied buying and wrapping gifts. Itching to get the tree up and house decorated. But this year it’s different. Christmas leaves me empty, cold and uninterested in any of it.

I’m sorry if I appear a Grinch or a miserable bitch but I’ve never had to deal with grief and I’ve never spent a Christmas without my Mother. Christmas will never be the same. The buzz has gone and has been replaced with this irrepressible pain and emptiness. I don’t want to drag you down so my smile is there but when you ask me – sometimes I can lie but other times no – I can’t particularly have a happy Christmas. I’m sorry. I don’t want to dampen your festive mood. I’m sorry.

I hope that all who have told me to cheer up or get into the festive spirit are lucky enough not to have had to deal with this crap. I will hide my disillusion from my three children as I want them to have an amazing Christmas like I always had. But please – before judging and criticising others – think. It’s the most wonderful time if the year – but is also a day which throws the biggest spotlight on the fact that not everyone gets to sit around the table and there’s one less set of presents under the tree. And that’s hard. Painstakingly hard.

I mean it with every part of me when I say I hope you have a lovely Christmas. But just be gentle and patient. This is the first of forever – a forever without my wonderful irreplaceable Mommy.

Merry Christmas all xx
