Our lives are enriched when we have kind people living nearby. When we talk to them through the fence, they are the kind of people who can brighten our day with their conversation. They are the individuals that we should be able to contact in the event that we require assistance; even if it is something as basic as a cup of milk when we have none left to pour over our breakfast cereals, we should be able to contact them. They are the kinds of individuals whom we can entrust while we are away on vacation with the responsibility of watching over our homes.
However, some of us live in neighbourhoods with nosy neighbours. They are the individuals who peer through our windows when we are attempting to have some privacy for ourselves. It is possible that they are attempting to have a look at what we are up to or that they are trying to catch a glimpse of our most recent house renovations. The neighbours in question are extremely unwelcome; consequently, the question becomes how best to deal with them. Here are some options.
#1: Isolate yourself from them.
Your neighbours will not be able to see into your house as long as you have decent blinds inside or outside your property. It makes no difference if you build a taller fence or grow bushes next to your windows; the same thing will happen. Investing in a set of made to measure curtains that can obscure the view outside while allowing some light inside is also a smart idea.
#2 Install a safety and monitoring system
There are certain people who prefer to avoid being seen on camera. If your neighbours are made aware that you can see them trying to peer over your fence, it may make them less likely to spy on you. Even if we hope that your neighbours would not steal from you, it is still a good idea to have some kind of security system installed just in case. Security cameras, in particular, are shown to be an effective deterrent against thieves.
#3 Engage in Conversation with Your Neighbors
You can step outside with your fists clenched and engage in a heated argument with your neighbours if you become fed up with them peering into your windows, which is something that is very certain to happen. Although this strategy could work, a more productive course of action would be to have a calm and unhurried dialogue. Give them notice that you find their prying to be unbearable, since this may prompt them to reevaluate the way in which they are behaving.
It is possible that they were not trying to pry their nose into things in certain instances. When passing by someone is house, some individuals make it a point to peer inside, even if they have no intention of prying or being nosy. It is possible that your neighbour will offer you an explanation like this one, and whether or not it is accurate, it could provide them a reason to stop if they see that you are becoming uncomfortable with the situation.
#4: Do not answer nosey questions
The trait of nosiness is not limited to the use of probing eyes. It is possible that your neighbours pry into your personal life by asking you inquisitive questions about matters that have nothing to do with them. You are not required to respond to these questions; thus, if something personal comes up, shift the subject. You might also just let them know that you are not willing to talk about certain topics in the hopes that this would discourage them from doing so in the future.
These are only some of the solutions to the problem of nosy neighbours that you may implement. But tell me, what are your thoughts? Do you have any words of wisdom for our audience? If this is the case, please share your insights with us by leaving a comment below.
