Whether you are venturing out by yourself or with family, travelling is something that can seem overwhelming. The stress alone can make you wonder if it is worth your while. But there are a few things that you need to bear in mind to make travel much easier.

Have a Toolbox of Calming Tactics

If you know there are specific parts of the journey that will make you feel stressed, learning ways to calm yourself down in these moments will make a big difference. Sometimes, we need something quick and easy to access. Something like CBD gummies can work really well here, as CBD has anecdotally been shown to calm anxieties. There are also things you could do, for example, box breathing or any form of diaphragmatic breathing that stimulates the vagus nerve, which in turn, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (also known as the “rest and digest” part of the body).

Giving Yourself Plenty of Time

If you are one of those people that likes to get to the airport early, this will do a lot for your sense of calmness. Getting to the airport early means that you’ve got time to take a deep breath and relax so you can get a quick drink and enjoy peace and quiet before you venture to the next phase of the journey.

Enjoying Downtime Wherever Possible

Sometimes we are just thinking about the next thing. But if you’re worried about your connecting flight, or you are concerned about the queues, the fact is that there are little pockets of time where you have no control over what is going to happen. Rather than spending those few minutes panicking about what is coming up, enjoy that moment because you cannot literally do anything. Allowing yourself to be in the moment is crucial because you will feel more relaxed and therefore you won’t have exerted any more energy than is necessary.

Think of the Schedule

Going on holiday somewhere can be very stressful, but if you are booking two weeks away and you are cramming in everything within that time you are going to come back feeling more exhausted than when you left. And if you have been stressing about getting there, having no time to actually do nothing doesn’t help. Scheduling in downtime while you are there, but also when you get back makes a big difference as that all-important buffer day will do a lot for you you.

Have Something To Look Forward to When You Get Back

When we go travelling, we are on a treadmill of sorts, and when it all comes to an end, it can be very emotional because we have to readjust back to our old routine. Having something to look forward to when you come back, whether it’s some quality downtime in the form of a day off, or having another trip booked means you got something else to look forward to. That post-vacation blues is a real thing, so when you come back, considering that next adventure can do a lot for you.
