Many people look forward to going to sleep at the end of the day, but if it feels like you’re always tired no matter what, you may feel concerned. There are many reasons you feel so tired, especially if you feel tired all the time, and it can interfere with your work, responsibilities and even relationships.
So, it’s worth knowing how to overcome your fatigue and ensure you’re more energetic every day. It isn’t just getting out of bed. If you feel like everything is a slog, you must consider some of these solutions.
Improve Your Sleep Schedule
It sounds simple and almost reductive to encourage you to fix your sleep schedule, but if you want to sleep better and feel more energetic when you wake up, it’s one of the best places to start. Even if you manage to get the recommended seven or eight hours each night, your sleep schedule might not be consistent. Sometimes you go to bed at ten o’clock, whereas other nights you stay up until two or three in the morning no matter how tired you are.
This inconsistency can have damaging effects on the quality of your sleep and contributes to significant fatigue, even if it doesn’t hit you the next day. You cannot burn the candle at both ends, so endeavour to change your sleep schedule and go to sleep at the same time each night.
Take a Pregnancy Test
Tiredness is one of the most common pregnancy symptoms expectant mothers report, so if you have noticed any other changes in your mood or eating habits, there’s a strong chance you are pregnant. If you have had kids before, you may already recognise these symptoms, but if this is your first child, you might be confused about what is happening to your body.
You may not get a definitive answer from a store-bought pregnancy test, so it’s worth taking a few just to be sure. Even if these are negative, you can also visit the doctor for tests. If you aren’t pregnant, they should be able to identify what is going on.
Improve Your Diet
Your diet influences a lot of your energy levels and if you do not consume high-energy foods regularly, it’s no wonder you struggle to get through the day without feeling like you need a nap. As much as chocolate and sweets might seem like they boost your energy levels, they only give you a small rush, and too much causes a sugar crash.
Instead, eat plenty of oatmeal, yoghurt or lentils and drink plenty of water. Most of the time, you’re not even hungry, but thirsty, and this can form the ideal foundation for any energy-packed diet.
Cut Down Caffeine and Alcohol
Similarly, caffeine might seem as if it keeps you going through the day, but it will eventually lose its effectiveness. After all, caffeine is a drug, and you will gradually build up a tolerance that means it is not as effective as it once was.
Once you become more tolerant of caffeine, you will drink more to get the same effects, but this can affect the quality of your sleep and you shouldn’t drink caffeinated coffee at least five hours before bed. The same goes for alcohol which can impact your sleep and make you struggle to get a full night’s rest if you prefer a nightcap before going to bed.
Be More Active
A sedentary lifestyle increases fatigue more than you expect. Although you might not think sitting on the couch all day tires you out, you would be surprised. It isn’t that the activity is exhausting, but it makes your body sluggish.
You can overcome this by living a more active lifestyle. Going to the gym, playing sports, or going for a run or walk after work can help you tire yourself out, which makes it easier to get to sleep. However, don’t do anything that raises your heart rate too close to bedtime.
Ease Your Stress
Exhaustion begets stress, and your stress makes it difficult to sleep. This vicious cycle is something many people experience, so knowing how to ease your stress can do wonders for your energy levels.
While you can’t get away and take a vacation, you can find ways to manage your stress. Meditation, exercise or reading are just a few examples that can make it easier to reduce your stress and make it easier to get to sleep.
Exhausted
Everyone feels exhausted at some point, but if you’re experiencing long-lasting chronic fatigue, it could be a deeper issue. These tips can help you get to the root of your tiredness, but you may need to take further steps to help you overcome exhaustion and live a healthier and happier life.
