Switch Up Your Style Ready for Autumn

31st August 2022 No Comments

We wait for summer to arrive and then when it does it’s over in the blink of an eye. If your holiday beachwear, shorts, and tank tops are ready to go into storage and your autumn items are uninspiring, it could be time to switch up your style.

Autumn Shades

Along with the popular russet reds, khaki greens and burnt oranges that are a mainstay of autumn wardrobes, bright colours are going to make a comeback this autumn if the catwalk is anything to go by. From hot pink to electric blue, if you add these eyepopping colours to your wardrobe, you’ll be bang on trend.

Fun Mum

Being a parent can mess with your identity. Sometimes it feels like you’ve lost a big part of yourself and instead, you are just ‘mum’. Memories of the old-fashioned clothes mums of the past used to wear can make you feel as though you should be dressing in sensible or even frumpy clothing, but these days there’s no reason to let stereotypes define you. Look at Madonna – she’s a mum and wouldn’t let anyone dictate what she should or shouldn’t be wearing. The same goes for style icons Victoria Beckham and super-hip Pink. You can be a fun mum, so don’t feel you have to wear the ‘mum uniform’ or jeans and a stripy top unless you want to!

Hit the Sales

Once you have children it’s easy to stop spending money on yourself, instead buying cute outfits for little ones or the overpriced trainers your teenager has been begging you for. You don’t need to spend a fortune to look good, especially if you hit the sales. If going shopping isn’t practical, either because it means having children in tow or work commitments make it tricky to go on a spree, spend time searching lesser-known sites on the internet. Fantastic hidden gems such as Luella have great quality items that not everyone else will be wearing, meaning you get to keep your own individual style.

Second-hand Gems

Another excellent way to refresh your wardrobe is to swap out items you’ll no longer wear for new-to-you garments you’ll love. Online selling is a fantastic way to raise funds with sites such as Vinted and eBay reaching a large audience. Facebook groups are another way of selling or swapping your unwanted items. You can reinvest any money you make into your clothing fund. To get real value for money, check out charity shops – who knows what wonders you’ll find. One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure!

Accessorise

Don’t be afraid of using accessories to jazz up an outfit. As well as jewellery, hats and scarves, bags can make or break an outfit. Shoes can also transform a whole look so if you feel more comfortable in plain clothes, why not go wild with elaborate shoes? Sequins are big in 2022, so channel your inner Dorothy and go for glittery footwear to dazzle everyone you know.

However you update your wardrobe, make sure you are happy with your new items. What we wear has a significant impacton our mood and if you know you look good, you’ll feel good too!

B xx
