Now You Are Six

7th June 2019

Today six years ago, we went from three to five and life as we knew it flipped on it’s head. Identical twin girls to accompany Charlie boy. Twins.

I always like to write a birthday post because it is so lovely to look back on birthdays gone by and see how much you’ve changed; what traits are shining through and what fads and tastes have gone by the by. Last year turning five seemed a really grown up age, and six too feels like we have lost the small child tag and we are hurtling to a more mature grown up age.

People no longer give me a pitiful glance as I say I have twins, whereas when you were babies and toddlers and they couldn’t imagine the chaos that went on behind the scenes. It was chaos, and still is but it’s a different kind. You both absolute LOVE to bicker. Bickering has become a staple of most days lately and wow is it exhausting. I do think back to being small myself and despite an almost four year age gap, I remember my sister and I falling out incessantly. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to have been with her 24/7 at school and home, so I really should cut you some slack.

The last few weeks alone, you have changed so much as not only have you swam 10 metres unaided out of the blue but have zoomed off on your bikes. We barely tried and you just nailed it. You being five, we went on some pretty amazing adventures to Portugal AND Florida – we are so grateful to be able to take you to these places and see the world.

My big one. I am amazed at how much you’ve improved at school Pops. The start of the school year saw your feisty stubborn side prevail with a complete refusal to get stuck in to your school work. Whether it be a lack of confidence, or your desire not to be told what to do(!) it seemed an uphill battle but with extra work we have got there and you now produce some amazing stuff, which I am so proud of. You have also had the mildest case of chicken pox I’ve ever seen so another big milestone ticked off. You have stuck at Tae Kwon Do and still love it. It’s the first hobby that either of you have lasted at for more than a term, so I am very proud.

My little one. You have become very experimental this last year with all things clothes and accessories. Some days you want to try make up and dress in funky dresses, the next back with the footy kits and trainers. You have a real brave streak that we saw shine at Disney and Universal and will definitely be our dare devil when it comes to rides and taking risks. You are willing to give anything a go and love your sports and are naturally athletic; we already are on the countdown for sports day where it’s your time to shine!. By some miracle, you managed to not catch the chicken pox despite your twin sister and the entire class getting it – like Darth Vader himself said, the force is strong with this one.

In September, you will enter your last year at the “Infants” side of the school before getting even more independent over at the Juniors. I can’t believe we are here already and those endless days of nappies and no sleep really do seem forever ago.
Six years of you. It’s been a blast.

B xx

Lovely! Nice to acknowledge and Celebrate the various ages and stages / milestones, etc of life. Wonderful that you see and recognise each child / girl for the individual that each of them are. Loved and acknowledged as twins, siblings, sisters and individuals.
