17th March 2019

Anyone who has ever embarked on a mission to get fit will have endured days when they really didn’t want to go for a run or hit the gym hit the gym. When you’re working towards objectives, motivation is critical, but how do you keep going when you feel like you’ve tried everything? If you’ve tried working out with a buddy, buying new gym clothes and using visualisation techniques to increase your enthusiasm levels, and you’re still struggling, here are some new ways to help you get back on track.

Go back to the start

This might sound like it’s a step backwards, but often, we get so caught up in what we want the future to look like that we forget about why we started the journey in the first place. If you’re finding it difficult to muster up that extra bit of energy you need to get your body moving, go back to the beginning, and think about why you wanted to make a change. If it helps, write a list. Are you trying to improve your health? Do you want to set a good example for your kids or have more energy when they’re running riot in the garden? Are you eager to lose weight? Do you want to improve or protect your mental health? Do you want to feel more confident in your own skin? Whatever your reasons, don’t lose sight of them. Keep them in mind when you’re approaching that last half-mile or you’re on the final set of crunches and you feel like throwing in the towel.

Use your story to inspire others

Many of us use other people’s stories to inspire and motivate us. We see people who have changed their lives around or fallen in love with training, and it gives us hope that we can achieve our own personal goals. If you want to inspire others at the same time as increasing your motivation to carry on training, have you thought about setting up a social media account or page to share your journey and exchange training and fitness tips? You don’t have to be a technological maestro to master creating a bodybuilding Instagram page or set up a blog devoted to exercise. Choose a niche, define your market, and open a business page. This will enable you to reach out to more followers and target audiences that have similar interests. Once you’ve chosen a name, you can start posting and sharing videos, images, and clips and encouraging people to share and like your posts and get involved and leave comments and ideas.

Have fun

If you were the kind of person that used to roll your eyes whenever the word exercise was mentioned, you may have assumed that having fun while sweating buckets simply wasn’t possible. There may still be days when you dread going to the gym, but there are lots of ways you can make workouts more enjoyable. Switch up your sessions to include different types of activities and sports, use different settings to train, and spend some time with other people. Take friends with you or join a class or a running club.
