Is a Villa Holiday Best for a Family?

17th May 2018

Regular readers will know we are James Villa Holidays ambassadors and this summer we will be jetting off to our villa in Portugal with them. To say we are excited, is an understatement and we are literally counting down the days until we jet off for some summer sun.

As a family of five, we struggle to fit into a hotel room, which tend to cater for a maximum of two adults and two children; the options for a family of 5 can often be quite limited, especially now as the children are older and a sharing a cot is not an option. My husband works away a lot, so a family holiday is so precious for us to spend time together as a family unit. I want it to feel like a holiday and keep stress at bay. I look back at my childhood and our big summer holiday is what stands head and shoulders as the most wonderful memories, and I want my kids to be able to do the same.

This summer, we are heading off on our James Villa Holiday to Portugal. We stayed in a villa in Portugal when Charlie was three; we went with my parents and it was such a relaxing time. We have not taken the girls on a beach holiday abroad yet so this will be our first time. We have looked previously at hotels but I am always put off by the lack of space. I thought back to our previous holiday and I know that a villa holiday is without a doubt the best way to holiday with kids.

Here are five reasons why I think a villa holiday is the child friendly way to holiday with kids:

Your own pool

Most villas offer their own swimming pool, which is just idyllic! All three of my kids absolutely love the water and with the girls having swimming lessons, I am confident that come July they will be able to be in the pool with minimal assistance needed. I am looking forward to lounging on our super duper pizza shaped lilo that we were kindly sent by the James Villas team. I love that there will be no time restrictions as to when you can swim and also no needing to rush down to the poolside to bag your sun lounger!

Your own space – and bedroom!

It’s no secret that our twins are not the best sleepers. Sharing one hotel room to put it bluntly, is hellish! It’s not fair on Charlie that he constantly is disturbed by them, so a villa holiday offers you the space to not only have your own bedroom, but they are super spacious and enable you to go off for 5 minutes on your own should you want to. I love that a villa offers home comforts such as a bath, TV, fridge meaning that you can fully kick back – without the need for housework!

The cost

Villas are definitely better value for money than small pokey hotel rooms. We previously went on holiday in a villa with my Parents and I know that we would definitely consider going with friends in the future and split the cost. There are so many large villas with lots of bedrooms, that it definitely works out a lot cheaper than pokey hotel rooms, where yo end up having to eat out at every meal time, which too hikes up the cost of the holiday.

Privacy

I have tried so hard to embrace my jelly belly, but I love that on our holiday I don’t have to feel self conscious by the side of the pool as it will just be my family. Over tired children won’t be causing a scene in a hotel foyer, nor will me with no make up on and humidity hair!

I love being able to have our own space and with two children that don’t sleep, it’s another way to relax that little bit more knowing that someone in the next room may complain about the kids – or if they decide to have an all night party.

Flexibility

The kids can quite often be fussy eaters, so an all-inclusive menu often is wasted on us. I love that a villa offers you the flexibility to tailor your holiday to you and your family. You aren’t restricted to eating in a certain place at a certain time, and you can choose whatever you want to eat and drink. I know that I will be embracing BBQs by our poolside and we can come and go as we please. I want our holiday to be relaxing and laid back; giving us time to chill out and take our holiday at our own pace. I love that we can just escape the five of us, without bumping into hundreds of other guests daily.

You also have the option to explore at your own pace without pushy reps trying to sell you every trip going, especially if you hire a car so shop around for car hire such as Rental Center Crete.

So, why book with James Villas?

Booking your summer holiday is a BIG deal. They don’t come cheap and it is a big decision. James Villas offer a holiday experience tailored to suit you.  When you arrive in your resort, there is expert help and support on hand from Villa Managers should you need them.

There are no hidden extras or booking fees on a James Villas holiday. Your baggage allowance is included in the flight price, so the price you see is the price you pay. With a whopping 95% of customers say they would rebook; and with a Best Villa Holiday Booking Company award under their belt, I think it’s safe to say you’re in good hands. The final piece of reassurance? Your holiday and money is protected by their ATOL and ABTA bonding.

Why not have a nose at their huge selection of luxurious villas and see for yourself. I will be posting all about our holiday, so keep your eyes peeled for our trip report when we are back.

B xx
