One of the real jewels in Malta’s crown for family holidays is Mellieha. This is a very safe place with a welcoming feel, plenty of shops, lots of restaurants and many historical attractions. It is also the perfect place for water-loving families staying on the island.

Mellieha Bay is known as one of the top beaches in Malta and comes with soft, golden sand and crystal-clear water. Whether you are reclining on a lounger or playing in the sea, you will have a great time. Mellieha Bay also has fun activities like windsurfing to try and a cool water platform for kids to enjoy. When you all want a break, there are lots of cafes close to the beach, perfect for a drink or a snack.

This part of Malta is known for being glamorous, classy and cosmopolitan. It is also famous for having some very good beaches for water-loving families to enjoy. The main attraction is the stunning Blue Flag beach at St George’s Baywith its clean, golden sand and clear water. Especially with children, you might find it reassuring to know that the beach uses the worldwide coloured flag system, so you can clearly see where it is safe to go in the water, as well as indicating lifeguarded areas.

Aside from this, there is also Balluta Bay to explore. This has shallow water and offers activities such as snorkelling. Exiles beach is also a popular spot for those who like to be beside the ocean but is maybe best for families with older children due to its rocky nature. When you fancy getting off the beach for a while, there is a very stylish marina to wander around.

Bugibba

Another great holiday destination in Malta for water-loving families is Bugibba. This is down to a number of factors that really help it stand out. Firstly, the main beach in Bugibba is a fun place to spend the day swimming or sunbathing. There are even some small jetties here to dive off and explore the warm Mediterranean ocean from. There are also water sports on offer at this beach – from jet skiing to paragliding, banana boats and more.

There is also a water park in Bugibba for the whole family to discover. Young ones will adore testing out the water cannons, loops and bucket towers. Lastly, this busy resort is close to most of the best beaches in Malta. This includes spots like Golden Bay with its family-friendly range of coves, inlets and loungers.

Sliema

Although it was a quiet fishing village originally, Sliema is fast becoming a popular holiday spot for families. If you like to be on the water or resting beside it, it is the ideal destination. Found on the Northern coast of Malta, Sliema is home to some great beaches and a charming promenade to stroll along. Sliema Pitch beach is popular with families for its sea swimming, calmer lido swimming pool and sunbeds.

Fort Ghadir beach is found in Sliema and is a great spot for those holidaying with children. This contains charming little pools which the water has carved out of the rock over time and which are perfect for children to play in. For younger ones, they can also be used to practice kicking in the water with a float. As with Bugibba, it is also easy to reach other top beaches in Malta (like St Georges Bay) from Sliema.

If you make the effort to do this, you will not only enjoy it more but your kids will also be safer.
