The majority of us will invest a whole lot of time and money into how we look. We go to the hairdressers. We wear makeup. We have beauty treatments like eyebrow threading carried out. We get our nails done. We go for pedicures. The list goes on. But one aspect of our appearance can far stand out from the rest and, rather surprisingly, it tends to be an element of our health that many of us relatively neglect. The aspect? Our teeth. When it comes down to it, our teeth are on display every time we smile or eat – which is a lot of the time. So, what can you do to maintain our dental health and keep our pearly whites pearly white? Here are some suggestions to help you along the way!
Practicing Dental Hygiene
First and foremost, you need to make sure that you’re practicing dental hygiene. Everyone should brush their teeth thoroughly twice a day. Do this for two minutes and make sure to use a good quality toothbrush and toothpaste containing fluoride. You should then floss between all of your teeth. Dental tape should do for the front teeth, but you should use proper interdental cleaners for your molars. Finally, you may want to rinse with a mouthwash. Again, fluoride mouthwashes tend to be the best!
Visiting the Dentist
Next, you need to make sure that you visit the dentist at least twice a year for a dental checkup. You can check in more often if you’re experiencing dental problems that guidance for self care dental treatment can’t resolve. Your dentist appointment will allow your dentist to to take a look around your mouth and examine its overall health. This will provide them with the opportunity to spot the beginnings of any decay, fill any holes and book appointments to treat any further problems that may need treatments like root canals. They will have all of the equipment available to do this, including x-ray machines. Your dentist may also be able to prescribe antibiotics that will be supplied at any sign of infection.
Visiting the Hygienist
Another appointment you should book in is a hygienist appointment. Surprisingly few people are aware of hygienists and what they do, but their role is extremely important to your dental health. All too many people do not clean their teeth correctly and slip into bad dental habits. A hygienist can clean your teeth thoroughly and ensure that you are doing everything required to maintain your oral hygiene. A professional scale and polish will remove any build up of plaque or tartare. Try to visit your hygienist once every six months too!
These are just a few straightforward steps that you can take to keep on top of your dental hygiene. But all in all, they should do you good and really help you to maintain good dental health!
