I have decided to start sharing some posts from fellow bloggers ahead of our trip to Walt Disney World later this year. To kick us off is the lovely Star from Autism Kids on Tour. and this post all about dining at the Rainforest Cafe at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The Rainforest cafe at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is conveniently located at the entrance to the park. To visit the restaurant, you need to go through the bag check area but you do not need a Disney ticket. If you drive you will need to pay to park in the Animal Kingdom car park.
With its own gates into Animal Kingdom, it is a great choice for breakfast before visiting the park, nipping out of the park for a meal midday, or an evening meal after a busy day exploring.
If you have a reservation at the Rainforest Cafe, there is usually only a short wait to be seated. If you don’t have a reservation you may be waiting longer, but there is a great gift shop to explore near the entrance.
The rainforest cafe is an amazingly realistic, jungle themed restaurant and the theming is fantastic!
You will be seated amongst realistic trees, water features, giant fish tanks and life sized animals. There is so much to look at, you will more than likely find excuses to go wandering around the restaurant again and again.
Generally the atmosphere is calm, with constant soothing sounds of water from the waterfalls and water features and the general animal noises you would expect to find in the jungle.
Then, every so often, the restaurant grows dark and a storm appears. There are flashes of lightning and thunder rumbles around you. The animals become more lively and noisy during the storms. The tiger’s roar, the gorilla grunts loudly and the birds shriek.
We decided to make a reservation for 12 midday for a meal before our booked fast pass times in Pandora, World of Avatar.
The children were given special menus which came with activity sheets and crayons. These activity sheets included puzzles and a tick list of animals to hunt for around the restaurant which kept them busy while they were waiting for their food.
We ordered two childrens meals. The first was “Rainforest Rascals”, comprising of two mini burgers with a choice of side. My son chose a side of mac and cheese.
The other childrens meal was a hot dog with fries. Both meals got the thumbs up from the children and were apparently very nice.
I ordered the vegetarian burger with rice. Our server helpfully informed me that there is chicken stock in the rice incase I was vegetarian and wanted to change my choice of side. The vegetarian patty was guacamole based and especially nice and I enjoyed the rice.
We never waited for cold drinks as they were always refilled just before we finished them. I also had a refillable hot tea that came with milk, which is unusual for restaurants in America.
We really enjoyed our meal at the Rainforest Cafe. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful and I couldn’t fault the service. The theming is done brilliantly and goes so well with the theming of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It was the perfect restaurant choice to extend our day at the park.
