I am on the wind down for Christmas and will be taking a social media break for the festive period, but I couldn’t not join in with the Christmas tag that the lovely Hannah from Hi Baby Blog tagged me in. Grab a mulled wine and some gingerbread and enjoy!
The Christmas Tag
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
I just love watching Home Alone as it reminds me of my childhood Christmas times as my sister was convinced she was going to marry Macaulay Culkin. Charlie has inherited the love of the film and can often be found watching it mid-June! I also love the Raymond Briggs animated Father Christmas, I always record that over Christmas to watch as we HAD to have it on on Christmas Day at some point as kids.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Not to my recollection? I do remember a few years ago we went to Cheddar for Christmas and we were in the hot tub on Christmas Day as it was so warm for England, but sadly, no snow.
Where do you usually spend your day?
Since we lost my Mom, we turned Christmas on its head. We used to be so set in our tradition that it didn’t feel right. Christmas is now at our house and my Dad and sister come to us. There’s always copious amounts of food and presents, but I just love all beg together and seeing how happy the kids are; cliché as it is, they really do make Christmas.
What’s your favourite Christmas song?
Without a doubt, it has to be Fairytale of New York. I remember my Dad always singing along in the car to it as we used to go out delivering cards. I remember being small and just seeing all these bright Christmas lights. It brings back brilliant memories, not to mention being a brilliant song.
Do you open any presents on Christmas eve?
No. We used to as my sisters partner didn’t used to spend Christmas Day with us, so it was nice to get him to open his gifts and also for him to see Charlie open his. However, now we all spend it together so we are really good and wait for the big day. We don’t do Christmas Eve boxes here either, so it’s just an excitement building day!
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Dasher, Donna, Blizten, Comid, Cupid, Dancer, Prancer…Rudolph? Have I missed any?!
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
We have an annual game of scrabble after having a takeaway on Christmas Eve which often gets quite competitive. WE wait until the kids are in bed and have a few drinks and it’s always nice to gloat when beating your ultra competitive sister!
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Real. We never had real ones growing up and it was only when I met my husband did I convert. It has become tradition that he and Charlie go and pick the tree in December and I do love decorating them.
What’s your favourite holiday food/treat/sweet?
Without a doubt – pigs in blankets! They are my dream food and coupled with stuffing and turkey gravy – oh I am drooling at the mere thought.
Be honest. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
Genuinely, I love giving. I absolutely love to see peoples reactions and treat them. We are lucky to be able to give gifts and I am a real Christmas person so can’t help but buy LOADS.
What’s the best Christmas present you ever received?
My engagement ring on Christmas 2011 was one I won’t ever forget, it was the most amazing present and who would have thought 12 months later I’d be married and pregnant with identical twins?! What a year that was.
What’s your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I want to visit New York full stop, but being huge Home Alone fans I think that was where my love started and seeing it all dressed up for Christmas looks mind blowing. One day, I swear!
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I try my best, but in reality they never look that good. I did manage to remember to buy bows this year so that detracts from the dodgy sellotape (I hope)
What’s your most memorable Christmas memory?
As above, the one where I got engaged was pretty amazing but the year later in hindsight too was special. I was pregnant and we were all so excited and on a high after our wedding a few months before wasn’t poorly so it holds some amazing memories that are lovely to look back on.
What made you realise the truth about Christmas?
The truth that it is truly amazing yes?!
What makes the holidays special for you?
Family, friends…and FOOD!
Have a wonderful Christmas all. Thank you for all being so lovely this year.
