Festive Films For the Family

The weather is ridiculously cold and for me, the best way to make the dark cold nights bearable in the run up to Christmas, is to snuggle inside on the sofa with a big blanket and watch the TV by fairy lights. I love flicking through all the festive scheduling and love to get a Christmas edition of the Radio Times to have a nose to see what’s on. There’s one thing you can guarantee though; as always Netflix has Christmas covered. From cartoons for the kids, to soppy Christmas miracle films to a touch of the old scare fest I have decided to share with you my top picks for the festive season for everyone.

Miracle on 34th Street. Who doesn’t love this one? This is exactly how I picture the real Santa Claus looking as the film follows a lawyer and a little girl who must prove that a man claiming to be Santa Claus is the real thing in this heart warming classic.

My girls absolutely love animals so Santa Claws is a winner. When a gift sack full of kittens gives Santa a bad allergic reaction, the kitties have to take over and deliver the presents on time

My favourite as a kid was Jingle All The Way with Arnold Schwarzenegger.  It follows a desperate dad who must match wits with a sleazy Santa, a stressed-out mailman and a horde of parents to procure a hot new toy on Christmas Eve.

The Magic Snowflake Young Nicolas agrees to do Santa’s work for one year. But the stress of the job threatens the boy’s sense of joy – and Christmas itself.
Arthur Christmas At Santa Claus’s super-secret toy-making facility, Mr.Claus entrusts his son, Arthur, to carry out an ultra-important Christmas mission.
The Legend of Frosty the Snowman The mayor of Evergreen dismisses magic as nonsense, but when Frosty the Snowman blows through town, he shows the local children that magic is real

TV Specials

I am thrilled that both The Royle Family Christmas specials are on Netflix. I am a huge fan of the show and remember eagerly awaiting them to be shown the first time round back in 2000; who can forget when Denise is cooking Christmas dinner?! The amazing late Caroline Aherne at her finest. I spotted the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special also listed which if you follow me on Instagram you will have been treated to lots of IG stories from it as I watched it whilst wrapping some presents.

Maybe the happy warm and fuzzy Christmas movies just don’t do it for you? Well fear not, the now legendary Krampus: The Christmas Devil is available. The film is about a boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a festive demon to his family home. He then grows up to be a detective who is determined to find the fiend that kidnaps more kids every Christmas.

And finally the ultimate Rom-Com for Christmas is coming on 14/12/2017: Love Actually. The film is packed with famous faces who have very different experiences of love at Christmas time. Who can forget the iconic “To me you are perfect” scene and you’ll be rooting for little Sam to get the girl (Sam who isn’t little at all anymore!)

I just cannot wait to settle down with a hot chocolate and get the festivities underway; a very Merry Christmas indeed!

B xx
