Today is Roald Dahl Day. Yes, 13th September celebrates the legendary author Roald Dahl birthday and my children’s school always celebrate this day with Roald Dahl fancy dress inspired by his amazing collection of books.
This is the first year that I’ve had three costumes to sort out, but we’ve had great fun. Now I am putting it out there, I’m not a crafty kinda Mom so our they’ve all gone in DIY fancy dress. Here are our super simple costumes celebrating Road Dahl Day:
George from George’s Marvellous Medicine
Ridiculously simple this costume – you just need jeans and a red top and hey presto you are done! A spoon and a medicine bottle adds an extra touch too, but this is a really simple last minute Roald Dahl Day costume.
Fantastic Mr Fox
I absolutely loved this costume but again, it’s all clothes that we had in our wardrobe. A tweed jacket, a red/orangey tshirt, a red neck scarf and orangey/red jeans. I did get her a tail and ears from Amazon for around £5. The tail velcros together at the back of the jeans loop and she just loved it! I’m hoping it wasn’t a magnet for constantly being pulled though.
Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
A simple red dress with some white socks and you’re pretty much there. I am going old school Charlie and The Chocolate Factory with the original film where she has a golden egg (opposed to the squirrels in the newer version) I made the golden ticket with gluing some golden wrapping paper onto a piece of card. I googled the golden ticket and then printed off one from there and stuck it on the front. For the lollipop it was a simple wooden skewer glued onto a pringle lid which I placed a cardboard circle of and drew on a pattern.
I’m not claiming for these to be award winning costumes, but they are really basic and easy to do with minimal costs which when you have three kids – perfect! These costumes can also be used as World Book Day costumes and fancy dress in general. Did your kids dress up today?
