The girls were very kindly sent a Barbie Dreamtopia Styling Head to review from Just Play/Flair. They both have had a few Barbies in the past so are familiar with the iconic lady herself. In the last few months, they seem to be more interested in playing with dolls and dressing them up. My littlest especially is fascinated in watching me do my hair and make up so she was very eager to open up the styling doll and try it out.
I fell in love with Barbie’s bubble-gum hair colours as were the girls who thought she looked like a unicorn, which I have to admit I really liked their analogy! She came with her hair in two side braids. With two daughters who have just started school, I am tempted to use the head to practise hair styles on myself as I am pretty pants at doing girls hair!
The Barbie styling head itself measures around 22cm and comes with 20 hair related accessories including a pink hairbrush, clips and hairbands. She has a sparkly top and a star necklace printed onto her neck. The styling head also rotated 360 degrees and moves up and down which is handy with two four-year olds who like to maul toys.
My only criticism would be that the doll isn’t very sturdy. As it’s so lightweight, I found when the girls tried to brush her hair with some force she moved around a lot. I’d love to see little sticky feet or small suction cups on the bottom to try to stop this. Saying that, the girls didn’t really seem to agree with me as they liked being able to pick her up and move her around freely, so perhaps it’s more of a personal preference.
The Barbie Dreamtopia Stylist Head has an RRP of £19.99 and is available from Very.co.uk and is suitable for children aged 3+. It is part of the Barbie range available from Just play including the Barbie Deluxe Colour Specialist Styling Head (you can read review of this product by Dear Bear and Beany )
They have enjoyed playing hairdressers and even have mastered the art of salon chit chat as well as creating some wacky hairstyles indeed. I just hope they aren’t like me as a kid and stay away from the scissors. Many of my Barbies ended up with a crew cut so I’ll be hiding the scissors for the foreseeable future! There are lots of clips and bands to be able to make lots of different styles. The girls liked the colourful changeable barrettes that can be put in the middle of the clips. Just makes sure you have somewhere safe to store them as they are quite small so could easily get lost. Make sure they’re also kept well away from little people who like to put things in their mouth!
As we reach mid September, I know Christmas (sorry!) is starting to enter peoples heads in a bid to be organised and I think this will be a popular one this Christmas with Barbie fans everywhere as it is a really reasonable price for a good sized toy.
