With the girls starting school in September, buying uniform for girls has been quite the revelation. I have to admit I am clueless when it comes to buying girls school shoes. I know my girls and they love to climb so I wanted to get girls school shoes that I know will last.
In the past I have bought cheap shoes for Charlie and to me they are complete false economy. I ended up having to replace some within a month of purchase when he started. I know that a good quality pair of shoes are an essential when starting school. If you think about how much these shoes are going to be used, then you know it’s worth paying for the quality.
We have never tried Start-rite shoes but I have heard brilliant things about them; one of my best friends swears blind by them so I was keen to try them out for my girls. After looking online, I opted to try the Princess Elza black patent shoes for P2 as she is a bit like a magpie and loves all things shiny. She was instantly drawn to the charms that you can add onto the shoes on the main strap. There is a detachable bow along with two different charms which you can switch and change round as you wish.
For me, I was drawn to the scuff resistant toes. I know this is where we are going to struggle with the girls. I remember I always used to have patent shoes as a kid and I like how easy they are to clean. Both pairs of shoes feel incredibly sturdy without feeling inflexible and painful for my girls little feet.
We also were sent the Mary Jane black patent shoes. I love how lightweight these feel and soft the inside feels. P1 is not a fan of fussy patterns so these are a simple yet stylish style that again I am hoping will be super easy to keep clean. Again, they are Velcro fastenings meaning they will be able to get them on and off with ease.
They have a thick sturdy rubber sole which will give them good cushioning. I will be interested to see how we get on as with Charlie’s shoes, I’ve only ever known leather school shoes so it will be interesting to see how we get on during the school terms.
I can’t believe that in under a few weeks my girls will be sporting them every day as they head off to big school. It’s all gone so quickly; I am excited for them but sad for me as my babies are all grown up.
Both shoes come in a variety of sizes and widths. There is a really helpful measuring guide on the Start-rite website which will help you order the right size for your child. There are so many shoe styles available that you will be spoiled for choice. I will keep you posted on how we get on when we start school.
Disclosure – we were sent the two pairs of shoes photographed for the purpose of this review. All words, images and opinions are my own
