Two years ago, we were excitedly making plans as we had our offer accepted on this house and for the first time, we would own our own house. I can’t quite believe we have been here almost two years, it really has flown.
As with any house, it takes a while to get everything looking as you want it. In March this year, we finally redid our bathroom which was a complete an utter bugbear of mine. It was the main project that needed doing so with that out of the way, we are now able to look at updating the house.
For me, it’s all about quality not quantity. It’s easy to buy cheap items to bulk out the house of suffice in the short-term,but as I’ve gotten older I definitely realise that investing is definitely more worthwhile in the long run.
I absolutely love the minimal look but I know that I am not disciplined enough to keep the bare bones and also with three children, I wouldn’t want all white walls and carpets as it’s not viable. I would hate for my children to feel like they could never play with their toys for fear of making a mess – a house is a home and a home is where you should feel at ease.
The Normann Copenhagen range gives a funky contemporary twist on the traditional idea.
I love this clothes rack and think it would be perfect for the girls to hang their dressing up clothes on. We have an ever-growing collection of Avengers and Batman costumes, along with Charlie’s beloved Harry Potter costume.
One thing that really needs changing are the light fittings. When we loved in the previous owners took them all, so we had to refit all of them. We ended up buying lots of cheap awful paper shades just to make do and they are long overdue being replaced. Not only do they look really cheap but they are a nightmare to clean as the dust seems to stick to them like glue. I absolutely love the colour grey and our lounge, hall, stairs, landing, bathroom and our bedroom all follow the grey theme. I adore this bell pendant light shade. It is such a contemporary cool funky look and would really be a statement for the room. I really think I need this for our bedroom!
We can’t do everything all at once, but I think we need to go round room by room and start updating to our own taste. Exciting times ahead!
