Last week, we were kindly sent the Sands Alive Cake Shop set to review. With the weather being so unpredictable, it’s always good to have fun indoor activities for the kids to share.
The Sands Alive Cake Shop set very recently launched exclusively in Argos and is another great addition to the award winning Sands Alive range. Featuring super-soft, non-toxic sand that sticks together well, the range is perfect for making detailed models. Now, with the Cake Shop set, kids can use the moulds to create cool cake shapes with the pink and white sand. I absolutely love the concept of it not drying out as my kids have a tendency to just leave things out and they quickly go hard meaning they are no longer able to be used, which basically is a complete waste of money!
The set comes with a large plastic tray, two packs of the sand, two rollers with different patterns and three cake moulds.
As expected with three and a half year olds, it didn’t take long for the colours to get mixed up together so what was pink and white ultimately ended up as lots of pink. It’s really soft and feels lovely to hold. It says it is not gritty and I definitely agree. I found it rather therapeutic to squash it up when playing with the kids!
The set has an RRP of £19.99 and gave the girls hours of fun play without it drying out., They loved rolling new shapes and it was great for their motor skills and bringing out their creative sides as they tried to stack the cakes and even got their Lion Guard figures involved. The cake moulds are easy to use and give a really good cupcake shape. They looked good enough to eat (but definitely do not eat!!)
Whilst the girls absolutely loved playing with it, it has been a bit of a nightmare as there are tiny bits EVERYWHERE where it’s dropped out of the tray. I think for older and less crazy kids this would be brilliant but for us at the moment, it’s left behind so much mess. They have had it on the bottom of their feet trampling it all round the house so I would probably look at getting this for older children who are less likely to drop it everywhere.
Disclosure – we were sent one set of the Sands Alive Cake Shop for the purpose of this review. As always, all words, opinions and images are all my own
