Love on a Budget: 7 Cheap and Cheerful Date Ideas

Sometimes we get so caught up in our lives with kids, work and just trying to catch our breath at the end of the day that we forget we need a little personal attention too, and of course, a little romance! You might not have the time or money to go out on the town, but you know what they say: love don’t cost a thing! All you need is a little imagination and a sense of adventure to turn a spare hour or a drab evening into a sexy date or a romantic gesture. If you can’t think of anything off the bat, try one of these ideas on for size!

  1. Game Night

Everyone loves a little competition, and it gets even better when you make it interesting. Maybe the loser has to do all the washing up this week, or maybe something sexier? Wink Wink.

  1. Take a Bike Ride Love on a Budget: 7 Cheap and Cheerful Date Ideas

Cycling introduces a bit more thrill and fitness to the classic date idea of simply taking a walk. Plan a route (preferably one which doesn’t involve a lot of traffic) and when you reach your destination, have a snack and a drink. You’ll find that the stress and endorphin release from a bit of exercise will boost your mood and make you want to snuggle up close.

  1. Create Something

The act of creating is revitalising and invigorating. Find a creative hobby that interests you both and commit to creating something together. This could take place over a long period, like building a shelf, or be as simple as preparing a new dish together.

  1. Pizza Under the Stars

Getting outside and taking nature in can release stress and put life in perspective even if you’re only in the garden. Find a dark space outside where you can see the stars and bring a takeaway. A candle can turn a late-night picnic into a romantic affair. When you’re finished, lie back and relax while enjoying the night sky.

  1. Give Each Other Massages

Nothing is sexier or more relaxing than getting a massage from the hands you trust the most. Check on goodreads.com for a massage book that sounds right for you, and learn a few techniques before you start. This relaxing date can last as long or as short as you’d like, and it’s great for stressed and stiff parents!

  1. Child-Free Sundaes

Sweet, velvety ice cream is a great treat for melting away your problems and bringing you back into the moment, and chocolate is an endorphin releasing aphrodisiac. After you put the kids to bed, pull up a few stools and make yourselves a congratulatory sundae. Don’t skimp on the toppings, and remember to share a spoon!

  1. Go to an Art Gallery

Art can be inspiring and romantic in so many ways. There’s no need to pick and choose which gallery to go to. Just waltz on in and keep an open mind. If it’s good, discuss why you like it and how it makes you feel. If you hate it, it can be just as fun to make some jokes and decide which of your in-laws you’d give it to as a gift!
