The pantomime is rapidly becoming a tradition in our house after going the last four years. After returning from Disney on Friday, it was apt that it was Cinderella this year at the Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury. Charlie and I attended the 5pm show on Sunday and sat in the upper circle where we had a great view of the stage.
As seasoned Theatre Severn pantomime goers, it was brilliant to see Brad Fitt back however this year was completely different as he is playing Buttons, a role which is worlds apart from his usual place as the wacky outrageous Dame. Nonetheless, he is still funny as ever and he even manages a kiss or two from the gorgeous Cinderella played by Victoria McCabe – smart role choosing there Mr Fitt!
For me, the highlight of the show was undoubtedly the wonderful Ian Smith and Matt Daines who were utterly hilarious as Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters, Eugenie and Beatrice; dare I say may even have upstaged Buttons…?! Their costumes and timings were wonderful. I could have watched them all night.
There are jokes and laughs aplenty for all ages along with brilliant music and songs with lots of audience participation. It really is yet another true classic and even has a flying horse!
It really was a brilliant production and the cast are spot on. I did wonder if they could match up to last years epic Peter Pan but it’s safe to say, they’ve got the right mixture. I wouldn’t go to a pantomime anywhere else. Cinderella runs at the Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, Shropshire until Sunday 8th January 2017. You can buy tickets online – you’d be silly not to!
