It was my birthday on Friday. After last years big milestone, this year was definitely a quiet one in comparison. In fact, I didn’t even see my husband on my birthday as he was doing a crazy job that involved working for 18 hours or something silly like that throughout the middle of the night.
I went for lunch with my sister and Dad on Friday which was really nice to spend time with them, but all in all a pretty low key birthday.
Birthdays in our house are usually a grand affair. I think it’s from when we were kids – birthdays were SUCH an exciting and big occasion (along with Christmas) so we seem to treat them the same with our children. It’s nice that one day of the year you really get spoiled – even Mommy and Daddy.
As Daddy wasn’t going to be here on Friday, he did come back on Wednesday night for parents evening. We decided then that I’d open my presents as for some reason he really wanted to see them. And I can see why!
I’ll say it now – my husband is brilliant at present buying! I know I am so very lucky with this as so many friends always say that they never get anything or what they do are a bit random. It does seem I’m in the minority so know how lucky I am. But he’s the sort of person that if you mention something, he makes a mental note of it. I am the complete opposite with him and struggle every birthday; I really should listen more!
This year I said to him about the utterly stunning Disney range by Irregular Choice that they had launched. To be honest with our trip to Disneyland Paris just over a fortnight away, I’ve been bombarding him with all things Disney but the shoes I literally just told him about so to my utter surprise I unwrapped the most beautiful pair of shoes I’ve ever seen.
One foot is Gus and the other Lucifer from my all time Disney favourite Cinderella. They have the standard beautiful bottoms for Irregular Choice shoes meaning I’ll probably be too scared to ever wear them! They are so wonderful.
Getting such a wonderful surprise always makes you realise just what a lovely life you lead. I don’t often talk about my husband here on my blog or share any photos purely because he’s not all that keen on being featured! But he has never been anything less than 100% supportive of me blogging and truly appreciates how hard being a stay at home parent is. Work has been so busy and hard going for him this last year which has meant he’s spent so much time working away, which you would presume would put a strain on our marriage but if anything it has made us appreciate what we both do.
He financially supports our family and this year has enabled us to buy our first house and also go on my dream holiday to Disneyland. All the sacrifices he makes with being away from us are so we can achieve these things. He knows how hard life can be parenting alone 24/7 and despite working all week, still will offer to get up with the kids. We really work as a team and he still makes me feel like when we were dating with such thoughtful little surprises.
This post was never intended to turn into a smush fest but it’s my birthday weekend – I’m allowed!
