Dining Room Tables

We have now lived in our house for a whole year. In that year, we have slowly made changes and the house is now looking how I want it to. With a bathroom renovation imminent, we are also looking at changing the kitchen and need a new dining room table.

We have a large kitchen/diner and my pride and joy welsh dresser takes pride of place. However, I decided to upcycle our IKEA table and chairs set which was rather old and initially was a cheap dining room table and chair set for my first ever house. It was my first Annie Sloan project and whilst it has worked, as a family of five, we need a larger table and matching chairs! Poor Dad usually ends up perching on a garden chair when we sit down for our Sunday roast. It really isn’t ideal.

I have a huge problem when looking for dining room tables as I am massively torn; part of me loves the rustic country kitchen look with statement strong pine table and chairs but the other loves the sleek modern high gloss minimalistic look.

I know that white when you have kids is nigh on impossible to keep clean, but as the girls are now getting older I think they aren’t as messy when we were weaning. I like to think long term too and these tables would be more of an investment than making do for a couple of years.

I like the idea of an extendable table. It’s very handy for when we have people over for meals and the kids have friends stay for tea. It is definitely the best way to utilise the space and not have a huge table swallowing up the space when in reality it isn’t going to be used every single day.

My husband is definitely veering towards the more traditional style table, but I think I might like to mix it up. What do you all think; modern or traditional? I’d love to know!

I like modern looking tables with the retro looking eames style chairs. I hate my dining table, we got it from gumtree last year and it’s a bit crap with the standard high back leather chairs. Another thing to add to the list of things I want to change in the house!
