Joining a Slimming World Group

Ever wondered what is it like joining a Slimming World group? I did up until Tuesday when I bit the bullet and waddled into my local Slimming World group for the first time. You can find yourt local group on their website and there’s usually a variety of days and times.  I dabbled with Slimming World online last year but I did it online and despite losing weight in the first few weeks after long, I started slipping a bit. Yes I was cheating myself but who knew? Who cared. And I caved. And ploughed on with crisps and sweets.

But enough is enough. I literally cannot fit in any clothes. I feel revolting and utterly despise myself. I want to avoid social situations especially with people I haven’t seen for a while because I fear they will be shocked at how fat I have gotten. Now before anyone chimes “oh you’re not fat” I am. At Slimming World group  I was weighed and can confirm that my BMI not to mention my clothes and my own point of view prove – I AM FAT AND OVERWEIGHT.

No more excuses. No more excuses. With a group I have “the fear” and know I have to go along. I have a wedding to attend in just over 10 weeks and I can’t bear looking at photos of me looking like a whale. Yes it’s going to be a long road but I have to start somewhere right? I’ve even rejoined the gym -gulp-

I went in and was asked to fill out a form with all my details. I was then given my unique card (it’s a credit card sized) and pin which enables me to log in online. Once I’d got this, I joined a queue where you pay your weekly fee (£4.95) and then give your card which is inserted into a card reader. You then step onto the scales. The electronic scales are at the end of the table which only you can see the reading which is on a small digital screen on the table. Your weight is linked to a computer where your teacher will log in. It’s not read out nor made any fuss off. I’m presuming that in a few weeks if I’ve lost there’ll be great praise – here’s to hoping! My group is on a Tuesday morning and I’m excited to see if I’ve lost anything.

Try to search if there are any new member deals. I ought a copy of Bella which enabled me to pay just £4.85 to join instead of the £14.95 first week fee. Your consultant will probably give you a new member talk and run through the Slimming World plan, including what is free food, your healthy option A and healthy option B choices and also your syns (you can have between 5-15 a day) I was also given my pin number which enables me to download the Slimming World app and have full access to the site, including the very handy food search function.

I was asked for a target weight; I know exactly what I want to weigh and what to lose. I want to lose three stone exactly. That’s 42 pounds in total. I can and will do this!!

B xx

[I’ve joined slimming world of my own accord and paid all fees myself. I’ve not been asked to blog about it but am doing so for a personal record!]

Good luck with Slimming World Beth, and thanks for this post. I’ve always wondered how the do the weigh in – I had a fear it was read out to the whole group!

I am seriously thinking of joining as I also have 3 stone to lose. Unfortunately at the moment there aren’t any local groups which take place at a time that is suitable for me. I am going to see if there are any day time groups in the town where my mum lives and hopefully she will agree to look after G for an hour each week so I can attend. Xxx

I was so worried they would too but it was so discreet and no one made any fuss or issue over it! Hopefully you can find one as I do think I’ll stick to it with “the fear” of weigh in looming. It’s what I need! Good luck xx

Good luck 🙂 I’ve been going for about 3 and a half years and I’ve been on the social team, doing the weigh-ins, for about 2 years. My first year, I lost 7 stone. I’ve still a very long way to go (I started at 31 stone 1lb) and have been going up and down the same stone for the past 2 years but I’ve decided 2016 is going to be the year I crack on and get it done!
Good luck, I look forward to following your journey 🙂 xx
