Cosy Winter Nights at Home

The countdown to Christmas is ON but whilst it’s easy to go crazy on the decorations, I’m thinking more outside the box with creating a cosy winter theme that will last beyond twelfth night. Cosy winter nightsto me is all about snuggling up with a blanket and fluffy cushions on the sofa watching films with a hot chocolate and mince pie, with the smell of the Christmas tree and a few candles make the house so homely.

When we moved house, my vision for our new house was to step away from our last house which was awash with very bland magnolia. I wanted a colour that was still light but had a bit more depth to it. After seeking much inspiration from Pinterest I opted for a grey theme which we have used in the lounge and out bedroom and I absolutely love. We have a three seat beige sofa and our much loved swivel chair which spins, much to the children’s delight. I wasn’t quite sure when we bought it about the scatter cushions being checked but it’s become a very popular theme and I’ve grown to absolutely love it.

The grey and white feel cosy whilst are incredibly versatile colours that match our dark beige furniture. The snuggly blanket is perfect for throwing over you when the night gets a bit chilly. Our sofa cushions are a mix of beige and tartan which adds to the winter theme. I picked up the heart cushions from Primark and they were only about £3 each and are a real statement. I went a tad candle crazy for my birthday and have candles coming out of my ear but I do love lighting them of an evening and having the house smell wonderful. We currently are at the end of our sugar cookie and a gingerbread one awaits – just in time for Christmas. They add the perfect festive touch to the lounge. IMG_5552

For my birthday my husband got me this absolutely fantastic Gerard the Slug who is actually a draught excluder from Hettie and Dave but with his monacle, I think he is far too fancy to be left by a cold door and we love having him as a welcome addition to our family, plus he is checked tartan so fits in perfectly.

I am old school and don’t own a kindle and prefer to read a “real” book so when I do, I need a bit of extra lighting.  picked up this ‘Love’ light from Primark and it was a complete bargain at £10. It looks so stylish and we get so many compliments on it. It’s another little personal touch, along with the heart cushions, that makes our house feel homely and full of love.

I am loving the Jo Malone diffuser which gives off a subtle rich scent meaning the house is left smelling wonderful when we haven’t got the candles burning. It’s not incredibly overpowering like some I’ve had in the past and I love the depth of roses as they aren’t too fresh and “summer-y” like other flowers.  IMG_5555

You can’t have a winter room in December without my favourite bird – the robin. Our tree is filled with them so I always bring out the robin china in December, so I can now have my hot chocolate in my robin mug and the mince pies will be well at home on my Emma Bridgewater plate.

I am super excited about Christmas but love that the themed room will last through until March without needing to change any of the colours of interiors. I’m off to use my mug and plate and get well and truly festive. Happy Christmas!
