We have been in our house properly for just over a month now and I surprised myself by saying to my husband that it feels like we’ve always lived here.
I absolutely love our new house. When we looked round I didn’t think it was that much bigger than our old one but since moving in, it feels far more spacious.
We used to live in a new build and whilst I loved everything being fresh and new there’s no denying them don’t build houses like they used to.
We were lucky that on a whole the house was pretty much ready to move into from the day we got the keys, but me being me wanted to decorate a few rooms to my own taste so our room, Charlie’s room and the girls bedroom all had mini makeovers decor wise. We also painted the living room and kitchen to freshen them up. It took a few days but we were able to do it before we had moved any of our furniture in making it far less stressful.
Now we are all moved in and the boxes are unpacked (well, most of them) I have turned my attention to adding accessories and little touches – this my friends, is my favourite part of well, everything!
I really want the girls to have a funky but cute bedroom and one that doesn’t get old really quick (I learned the hard way with Charlie after a Winnie the Pooh nursery)
With the wallpaper all done I wanted to fill an empty pink wall. Now, this may just look like a shelf from IKEA (which it is!) but to me it was the platform for uber cool stuff.
I decided I didn’t want to overcrowd but I wanted some seriously cute pieces.
The girls are at the stage where they want to take every single book off Charlie’s bookcase so I don’t think they’re quite ready for their own yet, so their books are temporarily housed on Charlie’s bookcase (out of their reach if you’re wondering) but there are a few that are too cute. Miffy is pretty timeless and the book is a cute shape so Miffy has been promoted to the shelf of glory.
P1 just loves her pandas; they are never far from her reach so it was inevitable that we would have to have something panda-esque and I found this super cute panda when my sister and I were shopping. It’s actually a money box but it’s just for show.
The last two spaces I struggled to fill. Luckily I have a bloody amazing best mate who had two cloud cushions handmade for the girls. They make the perfect “bookends” on the shelf and are such gorgeous colours and finish it off a treat.
Last week my cherry on the cake when the cloud garland arrived. I have been resisting these for MONTHS and I finally took the plunge and ordered it. It is handmade and from the second I opened the package I fell instantly in love; so much so I’m wondering if it’s a bit weird to have some in MY bedroom?!
I have been collecting cute signs, postcards and posters to go underneath but I’m trying to find the right frames – so watch this space as the wall fills up.
What do you all think?
