We have been very lucky with the weather recently but the last few mornings there is no denying that we are well and truly in October, and you can’t get away with nipping about without a coat anymore.
Charlie has very kindly been trying out a gorgeous new PuddleFleece jacket that he has been sent from the lovely folks at Muddy Puddles which has really come in handy. Charlie chose the bright green style but there are other unisex colours to choose from.
The jacket is waterproof with a soft navy blue fleece lining. It zips up and folds over the zip with Velcro fastenings. It has a hood and pockets to keep his hands warm and head dry, the sleeves are tapered to keep in the heat. The coat has an RRP of £40 which may seem expensive; I am a supermarket shopper so this is more than you would expect to pay HOWEVER, we are in year two of school now and I’ve learned that scrimping on coats and shoes doesn’t work! I have bought cheap ones and they just don’t last. I now will always be prepared to pay for quality to ensure that in the long run it’s actually best value.
The jacket folds up lovely and small and there is a variety of colours. Charlie has the bright green in size 9-10 (he’s a very tall 6 year old!) and seems accurate to size. I love the colour as did he, it’s also good that it has a reflective logo and trim incase he’s out and about after dark. It’s the perfect lightweight jacket that will also double as his forest school jacket as it can be easily popped in his kit bag.
It’s easily wipeable (yes he got it dirty on the first wear!) and feels lovely and soft to touch but doesn’t feel cheap and that will rip and bobble easily which is always a bonus as a parent of 3 children!
I have no doubt that Charlie will be wearing this throughout the autumn and into the winter as it still has growing room we will be able to layer up and the waterproof element will come in handy if we get any snow. Overall, I am really impressed with the product. The whole Muddy Puddles range is so gorgeous – I think it may be time to look at getting the girls some winter jackets and they’re all very reasonably priced.
It is a good solid coat that will see him through to next year – and if he stops growing, hopefully into next year!
Disclosure – we were sent the jacket photographed for the purpose of this review. All words, opinions and photos are my own
