Last weekend I took my big boy down to London for the first ever time! He is 6 and a half and has never been to the big smoke. He has been asking for ages to spend some 1 on 1 time with me so I seized the opportunity when the lovely folk at Little Tiger Press asked if we wanted to pop along and meet some of the authors and illustrators of some absolutely wonderful kids books and then would be treated to a trip to London Zoo!
We hopped on the train bright and early and as it was the weekend, the first class ticket was only a couple of pounds more than a regular ticket so we really made it a weekend to remember! I had never been in first class either so it was lovely for us both.
We arrived at Euston and jumped on the tube to Camden. It was only a couple of stops but Charlie wanted to experience it all. However he wasn’t too enamoured at the noise as it freaked him out a tad! Luckily it was early in the morning so it was empty and we had a lovely ride and a leisurely walk up to the venue.
At York and Albany restaurant where the blogger event was happening and were shown upstairs and met the most lovely and welcoming PR team! As we were the first to arrive Charlie set about getting his face painted which of course had to be a little tiger!
There were loads of activities laid out for the kids and we got to meet the authors and illustators. Charlie made an Archie from More! book and was helped by the lovely Tracy Corderoy. He also made a rather fetching crown which he took great pride in designing.
I was blow away by the beautiful cupcakes that were laid on; they looked just amazing and were such a lovely touch.
Steve then went on to read his book to the room which of course Charlie loved as it was all about poo! What 6 year old wouldn’t love it? So yes we were iincredibyl taken by Poo in the Zoo and giggled our way through as Steve read it to us all.
After completing all the lovely crafts, hearing the stories and meeting all the lovely team we were kindly given tickets to ZSL which was a short walk down the road. There was so much to see but we thought we would head for the tigers seeing as we were on a Little Tigers Day Out!
It was an incredibly hot day and the tigers looked zonked from the heat – after a long day I felt the same!!
There are SO many animals to see it gets overwhelming but I have to admit I was really taken with the butterfly area as they were flying round (boring I know in a zoo!) but the pelicans and flamingos were also a favourite. The lion enclosure will be opening next year and I think that will be awesome. We caught up with Becky and her gang and it as lovely for them all to proper chat and Charlie loved having some little friends to chat with. Although trying to get 4 kids to pose is quite the feat!
It was such a lovely day and I really enjoyed the 1 on 1 with Charlie and I know he did too. Thank you so much to Little Tiger Press for inviting us – as you can see, we had a ball!
