Things We Did Before Twitter

Ive had my Twitter account for SIX bloody years. The same account and same username so my almost 50,000 tweets don’t seem so bad afterall! But it dawned on me the other day when I wanted to find out something instantaneously – what DID we do before Twitter and how did we ever cope?
1) Prior to the blue bird we would actually talk to people sat next to us

2) Watch TV shows without a hashtag appearing on the screen to tweet your comments

3) Actually be able to WATCH a tv show without tweeting along with said hashtag thus missing it all

4) Have to wait for a magazine to be published to find out the gossip instead of searching theword and finding out in 4 seconds

5) Not know what the # on your home phone actually meant

6) Having to turn the radio off to avoid hearing who won X Factor as you’d taped it instead of it being all over a timeline

7) When a timeline meant an actual line with dates on that you had to learn in history (zzzzzzz!)

8) You wrote letters to celebrities for an autograph instead of begging for a RT

9) The @ key was only ever used in an email address

10) You could express yourself in more than 140 characters

11) You had to speak to convey your mood instead of just whacking on an awesome emoji

12) Super Injunctions/ the law could actually be adhered

13) You updated your facebook 29 times a day as a new hilarious anecdote popped into your head

14) No one was ever hilarious on My Space or Facebook

15) DM really stood for Daily Mail

16) You wrote your real DULL life story on your biography instead of a crazy wacky sarcastic couple of lines

17) Magazines actually had to dig for a story instead of reading a tweet and producing a whole page article based on 140 characters

18) Knowing exactly what you 140 characters means and looks like

19) Your phone was used for snake and pranking people to call you back so you didn’t waste your credit

20) You bottled up your feelings instead of venting on social media about how evil your husband is by only giving you three mini eggs

Any others?!
B xx

I liked sending Mark Owen and Robbie Williams birthday cards. They never replied. But when I tweeted Jamie from MIC he replied!!!! So therefore life is better with Twitter. I think? I’m not sure I have proven my point there x

Oh, for the simple life before Twitter 🙂 You are so right about the number of Facebook updates people used to do. I was on there three or four times a day. I’m not sure where my time for doing that went…oh yeah, Twitter! 😉 #TheList

Love these, though the one about Facebook surprises me as I had Twitter before I had Facebook. Dont’use Twitter nearly as often now though. ONly to tweet blog posts I read, actually. I laughed at the one about timelines being stuff we learned in history. Btw, why don’t you have yoru own Twitter name attached to your share buttons? I had to look it up and hten tweet this post.

I’m new to Twitter but already recognising quite a few of these. I admit to being a bit addicted to Facebook – mostly reading everyone’s statuses. I’m just nosey!

Fantastic list and because of tv shows with # and the fact I never watch anything live I often have to avoid twitter just so it doesn’t ruin my programmes! xx
