Oh wow. I absolutely LOVED Sooty as a child so I was so excited to get to see him live!
We were really lucky that The Sooty Show came to the Theatre Severn which is situated in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The theatre has a massive car park at the back so we parked easily and quickly picked up our tickets. The staff were really helpful and showed us to our seats. We were the second row from the back in the circle but our view was not obscured or poor in the slightest. It’s such a fantastic venue that you cannot get bad seats! It also struck me how clean it all was! I know I know but that’s my “thing” when you take kids to places! The venue holds 650 people; we were sat in the circle downstairs and there is also seating upstairs making it have a lovely authentic theatre feel.
At 11am the show started and it was just brilliant! I remember when it was Matthew running the show but it’s now Richard and he was fabulous at not only engaging the kids but the adults too. I loved his dry sense of humour and Charlie loved all the silliness.
The show is all about getting ready for Sooty’s party with some rather awesome singing and dancing from my favourite Sweep.
At the interval we had a look at the merchandise and Charlie had a Sooty puppet (£12) and an Izzy Wizzy light up wand (£5) I usually recoil in horror at the price of things at shows but most shops seems to sell the puppets at this price so wasn’t a massive rip off like usual.
The Theatre has a good selection of hot and cold drinks and the obligatory ice creams that you can not have during a live show!
We were really surprised to hear Richard say that we could meet him and Sooty after the show. The first thing that sprung to my mind was – and how much… But to my utter surprise – it was all free!! It seems nowadays everything is a money making opportunity but no, all we had to do was queue and we could take our own photos with Richard and Sooty.
We only queued for about 10 minutes in total, and it was managed really well by the staff as the line moved quickly which considering it holds 650 people, was perfect as it was all young children.
All in all – we had an absolutely fantastic day. So impressed with the theatre as there’s only 13 rows so it’s an intimate setting and little ones will be able to see what’s going on.
There is still lots of dates left on The Sooty Show tour – if there’s any shows on that are local to you, I’d highly recommend! Charlie will be 6 in December and I’ve never seen him laugh as much. It was such a wonderful day. I really really hope that in a few years they tour again so I can take the girls. Until then we have discovered Sooty is on CITV on demand!
Bye bye everybody, bye bye!
We were very lucky to be given our tickets in exchange for this review – big thanks to the super folk at the Theatre Severn. You can follow them on Twitter here
