Thank You Gifts This Mother’s Day

13th March 2019

It’s only a matter of weeks until Mother’s Day here in the UK and for me it’s an incredibly bittersweet day. Without my own Mother here, it can be hard but my three babies always make an extra special effort to make the day as special for me as possible. Mother’s Day can be a hard day for those who have lost a parent, Mother figure, those who are waiting to be a Mother or those who have angel babies. We all have someone in our lives who we view as a Mother figure and it’s the perfect chance to send thank you gifts this March to give back something to someone special.

For some, saying thank you can be a grand gesture as a spa break, night away or an expensive designer handbag. For me however, the most meaningful way someone can say thank you is a handmade gift. I absolutely adore all the things my kids make for me at school and I always keep all my beautiful handmade Mother’s cards they create at school. It really does warm my heart receiving something they have spent time on crafting just for me.

On Mother’s Day, while I would love to be lay on a sizzling hot beach somewhere, in reality what us Mums really want is probably the following (family, Fathers, friends, Grandparents take note!)

  • A lie in. Quite honestly, this is the best way you can say thank you – let me sleep in! One morning breaking the 6.30am routine is heavenly bliss!
  • Breakfast in bed. Not having to make three different breakfasts and then quickly grab a yogurt all whilst clock watching before school, means that not having to do it one morning is such heaven! A lie in AND breakfast in bed is the best gift ever!
  • Chocolate. Mother’s Day is definitely one day where you can ditch the diet and they don’t have to cost a fortune. Thornton’s reduced Christmas models, are currently £1 which come with free personalisation for a limited time – who could resist?!
  • Vouchers for me time. I always feel so guilty having “me time” but when I’ve been given a voucher to have my nails done, or have my hair cut I feel like I can’t NOT use it. I think vouchers are a great way to ensure that someone really does spoil themselves, as if I have had cash I usually end up just adding it to my purse and spending it on the weekly shop!

Mother’s Day can be a such a lovely day, but also for many it can be a hard one. Be kind this year to those around you and remember you don’t need to splash the cash on thank you gifts to show someone how much they mean to you.

B xx
