With Christmas around the corner and oodles of presents to buy, it is always the time of the year where you wish you had that little bit extra to be able to buy that ridiculous gift for your other half or treat yourself to some sparkly shoes for the Christmas do, but it’s not always that easy. I wonder how many of us have wished for a windfall around this time of the year?!
I remember when the lottery first launched in a blaze of glory. Every Saturday afternoon, my Dad and I would walk up to the corner shop to choose our numbers. Family birthdays, house numbers, lucky numbers…we all chose one and then sat keeping our fingers and toes crossed in the hope we would scoop the jackpot. We used to keep the ticket in a special cupboard hoping that this ritual would make it extra special. I do remember when we won £10 and we all split it and I basked in my £2.50 glory win.
It seems a lifetime ago that the only way to play the lottery was to fill out a ticket and take it to the shop. Nowadays you can play from the comfort of your home 24/7 and there’s not just one lottery draw anymore, oh no no! You can play the Euromillions lottery, play scratch cards and you can even play the Irish Lottery and the Powerball which is the American Lottery which had a jackpot of (wait for it) 1.6 BILLION DOLLARS earlier in the year. That has so many zeros I don’t even know where to start! (Anyone else remember the FRIENDS episode where they buy a load of tickets for the draw?!)
Am I the only person who daydreams what I would do if I won? My husband and I have almost had arguments about our none existent fantasy lottery win (he wanted to buy LOADS of cars but I was being sensible with buying houses) It quite honestly is the best game ever. I would definitely be booking a first class flight to New York then onto Disneyworld for about a month before coming home and buying the biggest house which of course, had a live in cleaner (my ultimate dream!) I could spend hours dreaming of what I would do, but I guess you have to be in it to win it hey?
What would you do if you scooped the jackpot? There’s no silly answers here!
