[Review] Baby Thingz Wheely Bug

The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on. My girls will be 18 months old so we are trying to find age appropriate things that will grow with them.

We have been lucky enough that the lovely folk over at Baby Thingz sent the girls a super cute Hippychick wheelybug mouse to try out for size.

We tried the small size which is designed for kids age 1- 2.5 years old approximately (25kg weight). The girls are now 17 months and fully mobile so a good age to test it out. And with two – it certainly got that!
As with all the girls toys, Charlie has to also road test them and despite being 5 he’s more the size of a 7-8 year old and he still managed to scoot around the living room like a maniac.

The mouse itself is made of a soft padded leather. The girls were transfixed by the ears and sat on the bug for sometime playing with it’s ears! Even better – it’s wipe clean! With my two little monkeys this is an essential as many a pretty toy has been ruined with grubby fingers argh.

My only slight bugbear is that if they lean back too far it does tip up – but this is true of almost all ride ons. However as it’s not that high off the ground, we’ve only had a bump to the bum luckily.

It looks so so cute and there are other designs to choose from including a bee, ladybird or pig; all which are unisex. If you want to check out the product yourself or thinking of Santa bringing your little one then you can see them all here on the site and you will get free delivery too. It is designed to be used on flat surfaces and as it’s winter it will be kept indoors for the foreseeable.

I personally think the ride on is perfect for a younger toddler. Both of mine got on it with ease and also managed to stay on as the rounded bar gives them lots to hold on to. It looks super cute and feels of good quality. It’s mid-range for a ride on toy. They have used Charlie’s old plastic ride ons and boy oh boy do they tip up in rather spectacular style! I think this is perfectly suited for 12 months on. I don’t worry about them playing on it without me hovering half an inch behind them petrified they’re going to fall back and crack their head. If it does tip it’s never far.

For me – I really like the product. So far we haven’t had any huge fights over it but if we do, I wouldn’t hesitate to get another. In fact, the bumble bee seems to be calling me….!

I considered purchasing one of these for Amy’s first birthday last week but in the end funds didn’t stretch! It’s certainly on my Christmas list for her though.

My little boy has a ride on which he adores (although not as cute as this one). He loves wheeling around downstairs, which does has it’s negatives as he comes scurrying into the toilet behind me! x
